Anna Paulina Luna's insider info may have helped influencer make bets: report

GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Pinellas County has led the charge against insider trading in Congress, pushing for a bill that would prevent members from trading stocks.

But a new Wall Street Journal report cites an anonymous source who says that Luna is under investigation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which regulates political betting markets. Another unnamed source alleged that Luna said she shared insider information with GOP influencer Rogan O’Handley, known online as DC Draino.

According to that source, Luna said O’Handley used her tip to place a winning bet on Polymarket, a political betting platform.

The anonymous source said Luna told associates in 2024 that she knew President Donald Trump would choose JD Vance as his running mate. According to the source, Luna said she gave that information to O’Handley so he could place a winning bet on Polymarket. A third unnamed source who spoke with the Wall Street Journal said O’Handley had mentioned using Luna’s information to place a bet, as well.

Luna has strongly denied the Wall Street Journal’s reporting. A spokesperson told the news outlet that Luna filed a criminal complaint with the trading commission, alleging that someone made false reports to the agency.

“l am honored the WSJ thinks I am telepathic but unfortunately I am not,” Luna said in a statement to that news outlet. She said she’d “continue to champion the fight against insider trading.”

O’Handley also denied that he traded using confidential information “or discussed doing so” in a statement. He described the report as “pure BS” on X, adding “nobody knew” who Trump’s pick for vice president would be.

Democrats have seized on the allegations as a sign that Luna’s push against insider trading is hypocritical. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting Luna’s seat, which was made slightly safer after Florida’s mid-decade redistricting effort.

“While Florida families are working harder than ever just to keep up with rising costs, Anna Paulina Luna is helping herself and her Washington insider allies cash in,” DCCC spokesperson Anna Elsasser said in a statement. “It’s the same out-of-touch, self-serving politics Floridians are tired of from Luna. Floridians deserve a representative who works for them — not one who treats public office like a personal opportunity.”
