NEW YORK — Comedian John Mulaney will begin the new year by performing nine consecutive shows in nine New York City venues.

The 43-year-old funnyman told NBC’s “Today” show that the “special run” will end with a Jan. 15 finale at Madison Square Garden. But he’ll play several smaller venues along the way.

“Instead of doing one show in New York City, or even three shows in New York City, for my tour, I’m going to do a very special run,” he said.

“Mulaney Takes Manhattan” begins at Greenwich Village’s Comedy Cellar on Jan. 7.

He’ll stay in the Village to perform at Blue Note on the following night before making his way slightly uptown to Joe’s Pub, then Bowery Ballroom.

On Jan. 11, Mulaney visits the Music Box Theater on Broadway, followed by the Beacon Theatre, then Carnegie Hall. His penultimate gig will be a Jan. 14 performance at Radio City Music Hall, where he filmed his 2008 Netflix special “Kid Gorgeous at Radio City.”

Wrapping things up at “The World’s Most Famous Arena” on Jan. 15 is unlikely to rattle the Chicago native. He made history on July 11 by being the first comedian to sell out Wrigley Field, which opened in 1914 and finally got lights shortly before Mulaney turned 6 years old.

Mulaney compared performing in that 41,649 capacity ballpark to being put in charge of a spaceship.

“It might’ve been too big,” he told the “Today” hosts.
